Insulate Right...Make it Hayes Tight

A poorly insulated and poorly sealed home is like leaving the front door open year round. Who can afford that?

Let us help you keep the
weather outside where it belongs.

Home Energy Audits

Why waste time or money with an energy audit when I know what I need?

Insulation seems pretty simple, but whole home energy efficiency and comfort can be quite complex. Our goal is to evaluate the whole personality of the home in order to find answers to these questions: Where is the air leakage? What are the building performance and durability issues? Where are the potential health issues? Where is the insulation level or air sealing inadequate? And others.

Some type of building performance and energy audit is the only way to make sure that if you spend money on home improvements, then you spend it in areas that will truly give you back value on your dollar. Most insulation companies will provide a 1 size fits all solution and they will do what they know. We offer several solutions to give you the information necessary to make a good decision.

How Can We Serve You?

Insulation

Insulation

Insulation is any material that is used to block thermal heat flow. Just as important, insulation should also block air infiltration and exfiltration. Here at the Hayes Company we realize that there are many valuable insulating products that do an excellent job of accomplishing the goal of a tightly sealed building envelope. Most products have an appropriate use and correct application.

What is important is how and where the material is installed. And most important of all: Does the insulator himself have an adequate understanding of building science principals?

Services

Insulating
We are building envelope experts and insulation is our specialty. We have the capability to use many different products. We have a solution for all areas of the house that require insulating or air sealing.
Air Sealing
Air sealing involves simply sealing the gaps and holes in the envelope to prevent unwanted air from entering and to prevent desirable air from exiting the house. It can sometimes be accomplished in the same step as insulating depending on the product and method chosen.
Duct Sealing
The average home loses thirty percent of its conditioned air to leaks in the duct system.
Blower Door Testing
A Blower door is used to test air leakage in a home or building.
Building Performance Testing
An extremely comprehensive process that involves an examination of a home’s comfort, durability, and health issues. Involves use of a blower door test, duct blaster test, Infrared Camera, Smoke Pencil, CO Tester, Gas Sniffer and extensive visual inspection.
Duct Testing
Ductwork is tested for leakage to the outside with what is called a duct blaster test.
Infrared Thermography
Infrared Camera is used to find leaky and poorly insulated spots in the house.
Duct Insulating
Duct Insulating is especially important when the ducts are in a non-conditioned space like an attic, garage, basement, or crawlspace. They should be insulated after they are sealed.
Weather Stripping
Leaky exterior doors can be major culprit in causing loss of comfort and energy. Attic access doors are another major culprit.
CO/ Draft Testing
Gas appliances should be periodically checked to make sure they are burning correctly and not causing unsafe amounts of CO in the home. Also gas appliances, ie the furnace and water heater should be checked to make sure they are correctly exhausting from the house and not back drafting.
Attic Ventilation
A poorly ventilated attic can make for a very hot summer. Ventilated attics requires a certain amount of ventilation per square foot.
Insulation Removal
Most the time, your old insulation should simply be insulated over with the new added insulation, but in those cases when you want the old insulation gone or it is a health necessity, we provide this service.
HERS Testing
The HERS Test includes the Blower Door Test, but is much more detailed and comprehensive. It takes into account all energy usage in the house. The HERS test can be used to improve whole home energy efficiency or to qualify for an energy efficient mortgage.

Referral Letters

Some of our recent homeowners have said:

As a part of our search to provide a solution to insulate our existing home, the cellulose insulation your company provided has proven successful. The complex installation procedure from the exterior of the house also was beneficial to avoid damage to the interior finishes already in place. The added benefit to using recycled materials of blown insulation includes a safer home by reducing the spread of fire through the vertical air space typical to older home construction. Overall better sound and air infiltration reduction are noticeable in our first winter.

It has been about a year since you and your crew blew in insulation into the walls of our old house. We have been through the full range of seasonal conditions and have been very pleased with the results. Our heating and cooling bills have been reduced substantially and we even decided not to add a second HVAC system in the attic because the home performs fine now without the second system. We have much fewer drafts in the house and the walls are significantly quieter.

Gone now are the shouts of "Blowers on, blowers on, blowers on" and most of the dust has been removed from the house and my nose, but what remains is the energy savings and the knowledge that we had a professional company come into our home and contribute to our comfort and well being.

Michael Morley, Morley Builders Inc., Lawrence, KS

We do want to thank you again for your concern, work and clean-up on our new house. We really appreciate that you and your crew made us a priority last week so we could move in with the insulation work completed.

After we bought the house, Connie and I got to talking about the house we sold and how we benefited from the insulation work over the years that TIP did for us. Of course the conversation turned to the new house and possible insulation needs. Your recommendation to check on old utility bills turned out to be extremely important. The $350 plus air conditioning bills were not very exciting. Having you adjust your work schedule to meet our moving in schedule was beyond your responsibility and it allowed us to reduce the work on both of our parts.

Mike, we also appreciate your assistance in putting our insulation needs in priority order. Thank you for your professionalism, knowledge, and service.

John Freeman, Financial Consultant, Paola, KS

Phone message four months later - Mike, I just got my electric bill. It was $175! I called the former owner. He expected my bill to be $400. His average bills in the winter were $325 - $350! Thanks, Mike, for the great job!

When I decided to have my 1915 home insulated, I called seven insulation companies. After explaining the details of my home and my interest in quality work, three of those companies referred me to The Insulating Professionals. Three companies visited my home and of those three, The Insulating Professionals made note of and explained more details and aspects of my home insulation project than any of the other companies. An enormous amount of personal attention was paid to my efforts to see that the job was well done.

I hired TIP for the job. The job was done effectively, just as described. My property was left clean and free of debris and damage. What little damage took place to some new construction sheetrock on the interior was promptly repaired - no extra charge to me.

I will use this company anytime I encounter an insulation issue again in the future and can recommend them with all confidence.

D Jonas Jr., Kansas City, MO

You insulated my home last year. The insulation, plus doing the things you told me to do, resulted in a 50% decrease in my utility bills.

D. Larkins, Overland Park, KS

I refinanced my home to pay for improvements (repair of stucco and exterior painting) including insulation. My mortgage payments stayed the same, and because of the insulation, I have more money each month because of the savings on my utility bills. They decreased 30%!

FAQ

How much does it cost to insulate a house?
That depends on many factors. That is why our energy consultant will come to your home and check out your insulation. If you have elected to get an energy walkthrough, he will examine all areas (dryer, ductwork, vents, insulation, attic fan and cover, crawlspace, rim joists, etc.) to see what your home needs to make it more comfortable and energy efficient.
How do I know that you are the best contractor to do the job?
Ask our competitors. Our reputation is that we are thorough and that we do what we say we will do.
Why should I choose Hayes over another company whose price is much lower?
Because of the savings you will receive from a detailed, thorough job tailored specifically for your home. Our knowledgeable Insulation Professionals have a great understanding of building science. They will be very careful to be sure that air leakage, heat and cold, is stopped so that you will receive the best bang for your buck. Click here for more details.
What if we can't afford to do everything we need to do?
  1. Our energy consultant will prioritize what parts need to be done right away and what can wait.
  2. We are also willing to show you what improvements you can do yourself and the best way to do them.
  3. We have financing available as low as 5.25%, click here for details.

We also accept payment by check, cash, and major credit cards.

How do I determine if this work is really going to save me money?
Go to www.energystar.gov to calculate how much money you will save on your energy bills and maintenance on your heating and cooling equipment as well as taxes on your utility bills.

Realize that the utility rates will not remain what they are today. However, the percentage of savings will continue for the life of the home.

Does insulating have any other benefits besides comfort and energy savings?
If your home is properly sealed, many of the allergens from the outside will not be able to enter your home, resulting in better health through better air quality. Also as a result of the insulation work, the house will have a softer and quieter feel. Noises from the outside will have less impact.
